AIS scholarship holders Sarah Cardwell from Melbourne and New South Wales's Tamika Saxby will head Australia’s team for the inaugural Under 21 Squash World Cup to be held in Chennai, India from February 1-5.
Cardwell and Saxby are multiple Australian title holders at junior level and both represented their country at Under 19 level in 2009.
They are joined in the team by Queensland’s Jamie McErvale and West Australian Walter Koteka.
Koteka played in the Under 19 World Championships in Ecuador while it is McErvale’s first time in Australian colours.
Australian squash great Rod Eyles will accompany the team as coach, with Canberra’s Josh Southwell-Nobbs a non-travelling reserve.
The Under 21 World Cup will feature eight countries from some of squash’s powerhouse nations, including favourites Egypt, England and Malaysia.
“The strength of world squash is reflected in the players who are available for this tournament,” Squash Australia CEO Gary O’Donnell said.
“Egypt is bringing the current world junior champions while England will also be very strong.
“I am sure the Australian team will do their country proud against what I am certain will be quality opposition.”
Other countries taking part include Germany, France, Hong Kong and hosts India.
The four Australian players plus Southwell-Nobbs will get some last minute match practice at the Australia Day Challenge to be held at the Northern Suburbs Squash Centre in Brisbane from January 19-22.
