The Academy is designed to spread funding and expertise across a wide range of players from our elite to the grass roots development level.

Selection Criteria For Scholarship Holders

There are five general categories of support provided by the South Australian Academy of Squash Program.

  • Elite – Those players who have established themselves at a high level both nationally and internationally. Will be full time players on PSA/WISPA circuits or members of national training squads, aspiring to play on international PSA/WISPA circuits and also aim to gain a AIS scholarship in the near future.
  • Targeted Elite – Players that are seen to have the potential, desire & commitment to make a national training squad or wanting to make squash a career plus have aspirations of gaining an AIS scholarship in future years.
  •  Representative – Those players who are young and motivated to be nationally competitive and have been state team members in past years or are on the verge of state representation this year, but don’t have ambitions to play on the PSA/WISPA circuit or due to study/work commitments aren’t capable of training at the required level to achieve PSA/WISPA rankings.
  • Local/Regional – Players who haven’t been selected for state team before but are on the cusp of selection in the near future, mostly under 15 years of age, this also caters for players from the country who are part of a club program that is affiliated with SAAS
  • Development – Those players who are very young and inexperienced who      demonstrate the ability to be future state representatives, and have come through the Bulls-eye program or local club program. 7-12 year olds
  • S.T.A.R.S – Players that have been selected through the squash-specific Talent I.D      program who have been identified as possessing some squash specific attributes. Mainly 9-10 year olds

The criteria outlined are the minimum levels that applicants should have attained in order to be considered for support by the SAAS program.

The SAAS Head Coach then recommends prospective scholarship holders to the Squash S.A. Board of Directors for approval.

Satisfying these criteria does not automatically entitle the applicant to any form of support.

Interstate players are welcome to apply but must meet the appropriate criteria.
