A BIG MONTH OF SQUASH AND A NEW NEWSLETTER FORMAT!

The month of June was yet another huge month of squash, with our junior's competiting in both the South Australian and Victorian State Championships, our Adelaide Autumn Pennant Grand Finals, and our first Women’s Classic event in over 10 years!  Not to mention, Alex Haydon, our own 2025 National Champion!  Read more below.

Our New Newsletter Format:

This is the first newsletter delivered through the Revolutionise Sport platform.  It is different in format, but also different in how the email database works.  If you are receiving multiple newsletters at one or more addresses, it is possibly an email import issue.  If you are a member, please contact Squash SA before you unsubscribe as this action will also unsubscribe you from ALL email content.  Please inform us of your email addresses that are receiving newsletters, and we can manually delete additional subscriptions.

Three proud South Australians took to the court at the 2025 Australian National Championships, each ready to make their mark in the Individual event.

Rema Muniandy opened her campaign with a strong Round 1 victory, showing form and determination. In Round 2, she faced the top seed, Jess van der Walt. Rema brought grit and fight to the match, but despite her efforts, the tournament favourite proved too strong on the day.

Mike Corren, ever the seasoned competitor was playing his first tournament in over 12 months, also notched up a win in the opening round. His next match was a tough assignment against 3/4 seed Brendan MacDonald. Mike showed glimpses of his classic skill and court craft, pushing Brendan in a spirited contest, but ultimately fell 3-1. 

Alex Haydon, entering the draw as the number 2 seed, delivered a solid performance throughout the tournament. With calm composure and relentless precision, she powered her way to the final. There, she met Maddison Lyon, who had beaten Alex the previous week.  Alex rose to the occasion in style with a commanding 3-1 win, and was crowned 2025 Australian National Champion, adding yet another prestigious title to her growing legacy.

National Teams Event - It's back!

The National Teams event followed, with all eyes on the experienced team of SA! Thanks to Alex, the team's average age dropped down to a young 45 years.....

The team consisted of Mike Corren, Jason Mudge, Alex Haydon and Kathy Conquergood.

SA competed in Pool A of the draw, up against WA and VIC.  We took a strong win over the WA team but were not quite up to it to defeat the Vic’s.  SA then played off for 3/4 placing against NSW and took the 3^rd placing defeating NSW 2-2 (8-6).

Tuesday Night Grand Finals kicked off the Finals series with the Premier League Next Gen Beavers, led by Jason Mudge, taking back the perpetual trophy from last year’s winners the PAOC team.

A huge congratulations to Clare, Loxton, South Adelaide and Next Gen Squash Clubs for securing Active Club Grants from the Office for Recreation, Sport and Racing! These grants will go a long way in supporting essentials like equipment, programs and coaching, helping to keep the squash community thriving. Well done!

The SA Junior Championships brought plenty of excitement, with 43 eager competitors battling it out across seven divisions. Players travelled from all corners of the state—including Port Lincoln Squash Club—as well as from interstate, with representation from Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland. The competition was fierce, the rallies intense, and the sportsmanship outstanding.

A huge congratulations to all our Age Champions, especially the five victorious SA players who claimed top honours.

13 of our Development Squad Juniors travelled to Melbourne to play in the 2025 Victorian State Championships.  For the first time this tournament was held at the new Victorian Racket Club in Knoxfield on the King’s Birthday weekend.  In total there were 58 Juniors from across Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, New South Wales and ACT.

After a decade-long hiatus, Squash SA rolled out the red carpet for an event dedicated to our incredible women squash players—and what a day it was! The courts were buzzing with energy as ladies took to the game, facing off against fellow fierce competitors. A smile on every face!

But this wasn’t just about the matches—oh no, it was a full-blown celebration! With a delicious lunch, exciting freebies, and the camaraderie of a like-minded sisterhood, the day was a smash hit.

Players from regional clubs joined the fun, embracing the chance to test their skills against new faces and make friendships that will last long after the final point. And let’s be honest—the thrill of playing, laughing, and basking in the joy of squash made this an event to remember.

Now, our 19 trailblazing women are heading back to their clubs, eager to spread the word about this spectacular day. We can already hear the murmurs of excitement for next year’s event, which promises to be bigger, bolder, and even more fabulous!

As the new financial year approaches, it's time to renew your Squash membership! Starting on the 1^st of July, you'll need to update your membership for the 2026 financial year.  The good news is that Squash Australia and Squash SA haven’t increased fees!  Due to legislation changes, the fees may look a little different this year.  Squash SA only charge $10 per adult and $5 per junior, they will now be displayed to include GST and Rev transactions fees ($12.86 per adult and $7.24 per junior).  Whilst other states charge up to ten times this amount, we’re fortunate in South Australia that income from The Southern (Squash SA's licenced facility at 1303 South Rd St Mary's) helps to keep costs low.

Most players fall under the “Adult – Local” category (SQA fee of $27.50 + Squash SA fee of $12.86), with only a handful of you requiring the “Compete” membership (if you play nationally). 

Your “local” membership comes packed with perks, including access to competition software, a Squash Levels Gold account, player insurance, SquashAus.TV access and benefits from Squash SA’s supporting businesses. Plus, a small portion of the fee helps sustain staff at both Squash Australia and Squash SA.

Beyond that, Squash SA works hard to support players and clubs, offering $500 grants for local senior tournaments, funding junior development, promoting squash in schools, backing state teams, and even covering costs for referee sessions.

Let's take a moment to appreciate the forward thinking Board members who saw an opportunity to purchase The Southern.  It’s now refurbished and thriving! Next time you are in the area, consider grabbing a family meal there.  Supporting The Southern is supporting squash!

During the month of June, Grand Finals were in full swing across our network of clubs.

St Brendan’s Squash Club

St Brendan’s Squash Club has been swinging racquets and rallying spirits for years, and Thursday nights at Rackets and Strings have become their weekly colosseum. After 14 gruelling weeks of sweat, slices, and serves plus a 4-week finals frenzy that could’ve rattled the calmest of forehands, it all came down to one unstoppable squad: the Snappy Tom’s.

Facing off against ten other teams, Simon, Sean, Jordan, and James sharpened their claws, arched their backs, and leapt into action. The Snappy Tom’s snatched the Stacey Wyatt Premiership Cup in their velvet paws and strutted off with the poise of champions who absolutely know they landed on their feet.

Port Pirie

Yeehaw! The Cowboys lassoed the Hornets 6–4 in a showdown that was one part squash match, one-part Wild West drama. Leading the charge were the sharp-shooting team of Anthony S, Anthony P, Noel, Chandram, Sarah-Jane, and Reanna.

They’d been top dogs all season, dropping only one match early on before galloping into finals mode with the swagger of seasoned racket slingers. The Hornets gave it their all, but the Cowboys rode off into the squash-set (sunset), victorious and possibly in matching boots (and tattoos).

Mount Barker

GM3 (Graham, Maddie, Matilda and Mark) swung their way to squash stardom, toppling the Wags 3–1 in a nail-biting Grand Final showdown at the Mount Barker District Squash Club’s in-house social comp. With five teams of four slugging it out over 15 rounds, GM3 spent most of the season lounging at the top of the ladder like squash royalty, with just one loss keeping them humble-ish.

But the Grand Final? That was no stroll through the service box. The result went right down to the wire before GM3 sealed the deal in the final match that had more tension than a tightly strung squash racquet.

Massive Loser

This month we explore just how much of an epic loser AnonTheMouse is. You have to either laugh or cry. I suggest we divide and conquer. You laugh, I'll cry.
