Welcome to the August Squash SA Newsletter.  

This month’s issue highlights a range of exciting developments within our squash community. We are pleased to feature both junior and senior tournaments, alongside the continued growth of our High and Middle School Championships, which reflect the increasing enthusiasm and participation among young players.

We also commend our local referees who officiate at PSA events, showcasing the calibre of talent within our officiating ranks. In support of this momentum, Squash SA is inviting expressions of interest from dedicated individuals who may wish to pursue referee accreditation and contribute to the sport in a meaningful capacity.

Finally, we wish to draw attention to the upcoming Squash SA Annual General Meeting, it is an important occasion for all affiliated clubs to represent their community.

New Newsletter Format

If you are receiving multiple newsletters at one or more addresses, it is possibly an email import issue.  If you are a member, please contact Squash SA before you unsubscribe as this action will also unsubscribe you from ALL email content.  Please inform us of your email addresses that are receiving newsletters, and we can manually delete additional subscriptions.

Over two action-packed days at the ARC, 150 students stepped onto the squash courts, ready to rally, compete, and represent. With separate divisions for girls and boys across both Middle and High School levels, the competition was fierce and the energy electric.

Each player battled it out as an individual, aiming for top rankings in their division. But the stakes were doubled, every match also contributed points toward their school’s overall standing, blending personal grit with team pride.

Faith Lutheran College emerged as the dominant force, clinching the top spot in both the Middle School and High School competitions. Their success was powered not only by high individual placings but also by strong attendance, proving that strength in numbers (and skill) makes all the difference.

Individual Winners:

On Sunday 17^th August we had 27 junior entries competing across 4 divisions at The ARC Campbelltown.

Thanks to all the players and parents and to everyone who helped out in any way, particularly the refs Dick and Liam who so readily give up their time, also to Nathan, Lucas and SquashSA for their assistance with setting everything up in RevSport.

A great bunch of juniors that always play with lots of enthusiasm and great sportsmanship.

Loxton Squash Club, with support from Squash SA, recently participated in the Riverland Recreation, Sport & Leisure Expo in Loxton. This event, brings together local clubs and the community, provided a great opportunity for the club to connect with new people.

Using the inflatable squash court, the club created a fun and interactive experience that attracted both kids and adults. Attendees were able to try their hand at squash, and the club's representatives were on hand to chat with potential new members.

Squash SA’s Club Support Officer, Nathan, took the opportunity to connect with committee members, discussing potential opportunities and ideas for the club's development and also helped convey Squash SA’s backing of the club to the broader community.

This expo was part of the Connected & Active Communities - Riverland project, an initiative by three Riverland councils to foster community engagement and promote active lifestyles. The Loxton Squash Club's efforts were a great example of how squash clubs can connect with their community in a fun and engaging way.

This year’s Senior Tournament at South Adelaide brought together 21 spirited players for two days of competitive squash and community camaraderie.

A huge thank you to Carol Cheetham, whose generous time and effort kept the day running smoothly, and to Dyne Correa, who captured the action as our volunteer photographer.

The South Adelaide Squash Centre are incredibly grateful to their sponsors for their support, Squash SA, for their generous $500 contribution toward cash prizes and assistance with creating the draws, the South Adelaide Squash Centre, for hosting and backing the event, The Park Holme Cheesecake Shop, for sweetening the day and JTMSQUASH for managing the event.

Thanks to everyone who made the tournament a success, it couldn’t have been done without you!

Squash SA proudly supported officials Dick MacKerras and Liam Johnson as they journeyed to the 2025 Victorian Open, lending their expertise in refereeing to Squash and Racquetball Victoria. During their time at the tournament, both were assessed at Level 3, an impressive milestone for our refs!

A huge thank you to Dick and Liam for their unwavering dedication and countless volunteer hours. The tournament director didn’t hold back, calling them the best-performing referees of the event. Outstanding effort and well deserved!

And there's more excitement brewing: Liam has his sights set on earning his Level 4 qualification and dreams of officiating at a top-tier international event, perhaps even the Olympic Games. Watch this space!

The 2025 Annual General Meeting of the SRASA will be held at the newly renovated Southern on Monday 22^nd September 2025.

We will welcome representatives at 6pm, and the AGM commences at 7pm. 

You club representative must be appointed by your club committee.  All "Authorised Representative" forms are due back to Squash SA as soon as possible.

If your club representative cannot attend in person, we would appreciate them to join via Teams.  It is very important that clubs are involved in the SRASA AGM for a quorum to be obtained.

Squash SA are hosting a Club Development Workshop over the weekend of the 13-14th September.  All clubs are strongly encouraged to send a committee member to learn from Brad Hindle, Australia's most sucessful squash club owner/manager.

The World Squash Federation has recently introduced amendments to theOfficial Rules of Squash. Squash Australia will implement these revised regulations effective from 1 January 2026. We encourage all players, coaches, and officials to begin familiarising themselves with the changes to ensure a smooth transition.

To support this process, Squash South Australia has produced a series of demonstration videos designed to aid in understanding the updated rules.
