2025 SQUASH AUSTRALIA FORUM AND AGM

From November 22–23, Squash SA proudly hosted the Squash Australia Annual General Meeting and National Forum at our Tonsley site. Over two days, 22 delegates from across the country came together for meaningful discussions, strategic planning, and collaboration.

To set the tone for the weekend, participants enjoyed a visit to Anvers Winery in Kangarilla, experiencing some of the very best that South Australia has to offer. Squash SA welcomed Executive Officers and Chairpersons, facilitating a series of important meetings that strengthened connections and advanced the sport’s future.

We extend our sincere thanks to Squash Australia and all delegates for their support of our licensed venue, The Southern. It was a fantastic weekend of community, conversation, and celebration.

There will be some well know South Australian legends of the game honoured, and we will start by mentioning our newest life member - Des Panizza.

Des Panizza’s lifelong dedication to squash began in 1968 when his father first introduced him to the sport. His coaching career commenced in 1973 and spanned an extraordinary 50 years, concluding with his retirement in 2023.

Between 1981 and 1983, Des extended his expertise internationally, coaching in Germany and The Netherlands, and he also proudly coached South Australia’s junior and senior state teams on four occasions. From 2000 to 2023, he served as a Next Generation professional coach, and also managing the Blackwood Squash Centre for three years.

His leadership extended beyond coaching, as he contributed significantly as an administrator, directed the Australian Open tournament three times, and worked at Squash SA as Promotions Officer and Development Officer from 1999 to 2012.

His outstanding service has previously been recognised with the Squash SA Service to Squash and Racquetball Award, a testament to his enduring impact on the sport both locally and internationally.

Keep an eye out for our December newsletter where we will promote our newest member of Squash SA’s Hall of Fame.
