In Memory of Metz Bradey

Published Wed 15 Oct 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Metz Bradey, a cherished figure in the South Australian squash community and a beloved father, friend, and mentor. Metz passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, generosity, and unwavering support for the sport and the people around him.

Metz’s contributions to squash were both profound and enduring. As President of the Squash Rackets Association of SA from 1990 to 1992, he led with integrity and vision, helping to shape the future of the sport in South Australia. His commitment extended beyond leadership roles, he was a passionate advocate for women’s participation in squash, serving on the National Women’s Committee throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

A tireless supporter of emerging talent, Metz managed State Junior and Senior Teams on more than ten occasions, guiding countless young athletes with his trademark warmth and encouragement. His involvement with the Blackwood Squash Club was equally impactful, whether chairing committee meetings or spearheading fundraising efforts, Metz was always at the heart of the action, never seeking the spotlight but always making a difference.

Perhaps his proudest role was that of father to Sharon Bradey, former world No. 12, whose achievements on the international stage were a testament to Metz’s unwavering support and belief in her potential.

Those who knew Metz will remember him as a very caring and generous man, someone who gave freely of his time and his wisdom. His absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Metz Bradey’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the sport he loved, and the community he helped build. He will be dearly missed.
