More Than a BBQ – Taking Squash Into the Community
Campbelltown Squash Club has shown this year that a Bunnings BBQ can be about much more than fundraising.
Across two BBQs at Bunnings Windsor Gardens this year, club volunteers have sold more than 1,400 sausages (over 120kg of meat), 90 loaves of bread and 50kg of onions, along with almost 300 drinks.
That's a lot of sausages — and a great fundraising result for the club.
But perhaps just as importantly, it's also hundreds of opportunities to get squash out from behind the court walls and into the local community.
Throughout the days, club volunteers aren't just cooking and serving. They're talking to people about squash, answering questions, promoting the club and reminding the broader community that there is a welcoming local squash club just down the road.
Activities like these create visibility for our sport in places where people already are. They raise valuable funds, bring club members together and provide a simple opportunity to start conversations with people who might otherwise never come across squash & racquetball.
Squash SA congratulates everyone from Campbelltown Squash Club who volunteered their time and contributed to the success of these fundraising events. In addition to raising valuable funds, the club's efforts have helped promote squash and strengthen connections within the local community.
