Tuesday Night Grand Final Madness!

Under the bright lights of South Adelaide Squash Centre, the 2025 Autumn Squash Pennant came to a thrilling close! As always, the venue was in top shape, and the energy was electric. Huge shoutout to the management committee—because hosting epic battles like this takes skill off the court too!

Court 1 saw the Next Generation Beavers vs. PAOC in a fiery rematch of the 2024 Spring Pennant Grand Final—and the tension was palpable. First up, Sam McKindlay and Sean Millar slugged it out in a five-game marathon, with Sam sneaking away with the win. Then stepped in the titans: the seemingly ageless Jason Mudge vs. the formidable Sam Page. Mudge reminded everyone why he's the league’s top dog, cruising to a 3-0 victory.

With the score tied, the fate of the title rested on the #2s. Enter Scott Coombe and Matthew Wolff, engaged in a battle worthy of a Rocky montage. Meanwhile, Mudge paced the venue like an expecting father, living every point. In the end, Coombe came through with a 3-1 win, locking in the Premier League Premiership for the Beavers!

On Court 2, the State 4 Grand Final unfolded in a clash of skill and strategy! South Adelaide Red, the proud hosts, squared off against the determined team from Barossa Valley.  Leading the charge, Barossa captain Peter Thornton stepped onto the court to face the ever-energetic Cameron Neilson, and boy, did he deliver—a champion’s performance from start to finish! Not to be outdone, Barossa’s Lachlan Duncan and reserve Amos Hendry followed suit, securing decisive victories against their South Adelaide Red rivals.  On this night, it was Barossa who stole the show, charging to victory with an emphatic win.

It was a rollercoaster on Court 3, where the State 5 grand final went down to the wire. Next Gen’s Shivam Sinha & Olivia van Zon bagged wins, while Rackets & Strings’ Zoheb Mohammad & Ross Pickett struck back. With match wins tied, it came down to the fine margins—and by just one game (8-7), Rackets & Strings clinched the victory!

Court 4 hosted the Tuesday Division 1 grand finale, and in a nail-biting finish, the host club’s South Adelaide Black squad faced off against PAOC Envirosim, and it couldn’t have been closer. Young guns Pat McGavin & James Wheeler powered through for PAOC, while seasoned veterans Allan Thong (reserve) & Peter Catchside kept South Adelaide in the fight. In the end, it was a 9-8 game win that sealed PAOC Envirosim’s triumph!

Down on Court 5, the always-reliable Adelaide Malibu ladies—Meg Yates, Tanya Virgens, and Katherine McDonald—faced off against the energetic newcomers from UNISA, featuring Nick Schroder, Zishan Irfani, and Aaryan Pasricha. This UNISA squad started the season as beginners, but their sharp rise in skill saw them take the win 2-1. Keep your eyes on this team next season as they climb to a higher division!

And that's a wrap for the Tuesday Night Autumn Pennant!  The rivalries, the comebacks, the sweat—it all made for one unforgettable night. Who’s ready for Spring?
