The Thursday Night Squash Showdown: Where Legends Were Made and Pizza Reigned Supreme!

It was a night of fierce battles, flying boasts, and a whole lot of drama as the 2025 Autumn Pennant Thursday Night Grand Finals took center stage at the ever-glorious Campbelltown Squash Club. The courts were pristine, the players were pumped, and the stakes?  Higher than a lob that refuses to come down!

The usually solitary warriors of State 2 had unexpected company this season, with some young guns from Thursday State 4 stepping into the fray. Flinders Uni’s Thurs State 4 players shared how playing alongside their club’s State 2 players inspired them to sharpen their skills.

The State 2 grand final was a battle of titans.  South Adelaide Blue, the reigning champs, stepped onto the court ready to defend their crown, but PAOC Tip Top Electrical had other plans—they came wired for victory!

David Lowden, the maestro of South Adelaide Blue, squared off against the powerhouse Matthew Wolff in a showdown worthy of the squash halls of fame. This wasn’t just a match; it was a clash of finesse and firepower. The crowd held their breath as rallies stretched longer than a suspenseful thriller, but in the end, Wolff powered through, snatching a gripping 3-2 victory.

With the scoreboard heating up, PAOC’s Alistair McTavish and Mark Fairlamb delivered the final spark, securing wins that sealed the premiership. When the dust settled, Tip Top Electrical proved to be just that—tip-top—claiming the title with a commanding 3 ties to 0. And just like that, the champions’ throne had a new occupant!

On the court next door, Thursday State 4 was serving up an absolute masterclass—Campbelltown Vesuvio’s Pizza Bar team proving that their home-court advantage wasn’t just about familiarity. Was it something in the water? Or was it the mystical power of pizza fuelling their unstoppable rise?

Whatever it was, it worked. The Campbelltown team of Chris Klobas, Chris Dawes, Justin Delaney and Greg Harmer swept Flinders Uni off the court, winning all four matches, dropping a mere three games across the entire night. If there were an award for sheer dominance, they’d have walked away with it—right alongside their slices of post-match victory pizza.

Squash, sweat, and a slice of glory—the perfect recipe for an unforgettable Thursday night.
